The City of Portsmouth is situated on the central south coast of England, between Brighton and Southampton.
Parts of the area date from Roman times, the British Navy was born here in the year 897. In 1106 The City gained a charter from King Henry the First. There are a number of historic ships here, Lord Nelson's Flagship HMS Victory, also the Warrior and the remains of the Mary Rose. Over the years, the City has seen an eventful and colourful history.
