The Rivals

There have been two groups who have used the name, The Rivals.

Above, left to right Roy Wells, Rod Watts, Tony Alton, Frederick Wildsmith, and the 1961 News feature.

The first Rivals started around 1960 and first came to the notice of all with a performance on the Southern Television Programme "Home Grown".
Also were featuired in the Portsmouth Evening News series of Beat groups in 1961
Known as Ricky Dean (Ron Rickwood) and the Rivals.
Rodney Watts the lead guitarist then now plays keyboards in a couple of different bands, Fred the bass player passed away, I do not know where Tony Alton the rythmn guitarist is, Roy Wells the drummer also passed away very sad, a really excellent band.
