DANCE BANDS

1940s and 1950's PORTSMOUTH DANCE BANDS, JAZZ BANDS MUSICIANS

There may be gaps, missing names and no doubt mistakes - we would welcome further contributions to improve the record.

Mick Cooper, cooper_m6@sky.com, & Dave Allen ,dave.allen@port.ac.uk,

Some of these bands – especially the larger ones – changed personnel fairly regularly. Many of those listed below are as advertised in the Savoy Ballroom’s Festival of Dance Music for the local branch of the Musician’s Union in 1955 & 1956

A = Alto, Tn = Tenor, Br = Baritone, S = Soprano, Tr = Trumpet, Tb = Trombone, Cl = Clarinet, F = Flute, Ban = Banjo, P = Piano, Acc = Accordion, V = Vocals, Vi = Violin, Vo = Viola, Vb = Vibraphone, G = Guitar, B = Bass, BG = Bass Guitar, D = Drums.
