Reg Calvert who was born Pearce Reginald Hartley Calvert, came down to Southampton from Yorkshire in 1950 and lived in a caravan on a farm orchard in Hedgend. An experienced hairdresser, firstly ran a sweet shop in Northam, Southampton.
The Bandbox, St Mary's, Southampton was Reg's nightclub and music shop.
Reg's wife Dorothy had a print-works on the ground floor where they later lived in Portland Terrace, Southampton.
He organsied rock'n'roll functions across the South, and one of them was at the Oddfellows Hall in Portsmouth.
Not much is known of them other than these listed here;-

1958
February 10th At the Oddfellows Hall, Kingston Ballroom, Rory Blackwell's Rock and Jive show with Vince Eager, Barry Barron's Live Five, The Nevitt Brothers and the Hi Fi's appear.
August 24th At the Oddfellows Kingston Ballroom, Geoff and Ricky Brooks and the Dominos, The Tony Porter Rock Group and The Strollers play for dancing.
September 7th Billy Fury and Dickie Pride appear in person at the Oddfellows Kingston Ballroom.
October 5th At the Oddfellows, appearance of Terry Dene, Vince Eager with the Beat Boys, plus Portsmouth's own The Hi Fi's with Martine Roche, Barrie James and Geoff and Ricky Brooks.
December 21st Geoff and Ricky Brooks and the Dominoes play at the Oddfellows Hall Kingston Road.

1959 nil

1960
October 1960 welcomed “Big Beat Rock ‘n’ Roll” to the Kingston Ballroom (Oddfellows Hall) Vince Eager re-appeared at the Oddfellows with Danny Storm.

1961 nil

In 1961 he moved to a big house near Rugby. Sadly he was shot and killed in 1966.
